Walter R. Chapman, 77, of Watertown, New York, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at the Samaritan Medical Center.
Born on June 30, 1946, in Watertown, New York, he was the son of Roswell and Rita Campbell Chapman. Walter graduated from Watertown High School in 1965 and went on to marry the love of his life, Marylee Davis, on June 27, 1970, at Holy Family Church. The couple resided in Watertown. Walter dedicated his career to serving as a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1993. Meanwhile, Marylee pursued her passion as a hairdresser and then worked for 33 years at Kinney Drugs in the Seaway Plaza.
An avid outdoorsman, Walter found joy in hunting and fishing. He cultivated his love for nature at his camp in Barnes Corners, where he maintained a Christmas tree plantation and delighted in tending to his fish pond. He sold Christmas trees from his home and to various vendors for several years.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Marylee Chapman of Watertown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Walter P. Chapman and Rhonda Cameron of Watertown, New York, and Brent Chapman of Boulder, Colorado, along with his life partner, Ryon Gebhart. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Kai, Cora, and Noah Chapman.
Walter was predeceased by his parents and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Grace Chapman.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 4th, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hart and Bruce Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
