Bettie Sprague Obituary

Bettie E. Sprague, 86, of Watertown, NY, passed away on February 3, 2018 at Legacy House in Ocala, Florida.  Bettie was the wife of the late Charles Sprague who passed away on February 18, 1998.

Bettie was born on April 17, 1931 in Brownville, NY the daughter of George A. Longway and Harriet M. Joles.  She was one of eleven children.  Bettie attended Becker Junior College in Wooster, MA and later received her Associates degree in Accounting from Jefferson Community College.

Bettie was married to Charles M. Sprague on November 1, 1950 at the Bethany United Methodist Church.  The couple resided in Watertown where she did bookkeeping for various businesses and was the manager for the Longway Motel until her retirement in 1988.

Bettie was a master gardener and an active member of the Democratic Party.  In 1976 she was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention that nominated Jimmy Carter for President and throughout her life she remained active in many local civic and political groups.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and in her later years she appreciated being in Florida with her daughter, Charlene.

Bettie is survived by her loving daughters and sons in law, Teri L. Glazer and husband Donald of Cape Vincent, NY and Charlene A. Jeffers and husband Dal of Ocala, FL.; three devoted grandchildren, Benjamin Glazer and his wife, Claudia, Dr. Nicole Glazer and Sarah Glazer; two great grandchildren, Francesca and Luca Glazer, her sister, Harriett Moulton, Charleston, SC and many nieces and nephews. 

She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, twins G. Douglas Longway andGladys Longway, twins Leon and Leonard Longway, Dennis Longway, Olive “Pat” Longway, Mildred Card, Regina Tanner, and Doris Longway.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.  A memorial Celebration of her life will be held this summer.
