Robert M. Olin

Robert M. Olin Sr., 90, of 25440 Ridge Road, Watertown, passed March 26, 2018 at Hopice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 29 and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.

The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st , which would have been the couples 56th Wedding Anniversary.  

Burial will be in Sanford Corners Cemetery.

He was born on January 25, 1928 in Orwell, NY, son of Kenneth and Blanche Masek Olin.   He entered the U.S. Navy on May 4, 1945, at the age of 17, and served with the Navy Seebee’s in WWII.  He was called back to active duty on June 13, 1951 and served in Korea.  He was honoarbly discharged September 17, 1952 and received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Robert went to school in NYC to become a barber.  He became a co owner of the Sportman’s Barber Shopin Watertown.   He then opened the Clipper Barber Shop at 222 Coffeen St. and moved to 1019 Arsenal St., in 1985 up to the present.  His daughter, Suzette, was trained by her dad and she will continue to operate the Clipper Barber Shop in her dads place.

He married Doris Lyng on March 31, 1962 at the First Methodist Church in Watertown.  Mrs. Olin worked for Coldwell Bankers Ramada Reality for 29 years and currently is an Associate Broker with Hunt ERA in Watertown.

Robert enjoyed music, movies, gardening, and was a jack of all trades. Most of all he loved spending time at his barber shop spending time with his customers who were like his extended family throughout the years.  He also enjoyed all nauticle memorabilia which he collected and displayed at his shop.

Among his survivors are his beloved wife of 56 years, Doris M. Olin,  his five children, Linda and Charles Sanford, Brockport, Robert M. Olin Jr. and his twin brother Russell C. who passed two days after he was born, Patrick M. and Melinda Olin, Timothy M. and Betty Olin, and Suzette M. and Lee Castor, all of Watertown, 11 grandchildren, Nikiera, Robert M. III, Easton, Braxton, Lauren, Michaela, Cieran, Colton,Morgahn, David and Matthew, two great grandsons, Zachary and Nicholas, his daughter in law, Zoeann Olin, Watertown, his siblings, Debra Olin, Rhonda Nasholts, and Gene Olin, his adopted son Keith Hodge and his sons and daughters.

Besides his parents and his son, Russell C. Olin, a granddaughter, Meaghan,and his brother, Russell Olin passed away before him

He was a member of the Watertown VFW and American Legion.
