Sandy Surace, 73, of 24763 Hinds Road, Watertown, passed January 11, 2018 at the Samaritan Medical Center.
Calling hours will be 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 18 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 19 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Born on June 8, 1944 in Watertown, daughter of Edwin and Helen Daines Madill, she graduated from WHS.
During her early years she was a waitress at Enrico’s Restaurant on Public Square in Watertown where she met Dominic Surace of Herrings, whom she married on January 8, 1965 in the Town of Watertown.
She then worked for the NY Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator with her mother, she was a waitress for many years at Longway’s Diner and she was most proud of her ten years of service as a service hostess at Nice N Easy on Rt. 342 in Watertown.
She was a former member of the Town of Watertown Fire Department Auxiliary, Watertown American Legion Auxiliary, and member of the Eagles Club. She was an avid Jeff Gordon fan and loved watching NASCAR. She was very involved in the local dirt racing scene, she enjoyed making crafts out of wood and crocheting. Most of all she loved her dogs over the years just like they were her kids.
Among her survivors are her three children and their spouses, David S. Surace and his companion, Clare Baker, Watertown, Patti and Patrick Labiendo, LaFargeville, James and Elaine Surace, Carthage, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Kristine and Angelo Augustine and their children, Kassandra and Katie, Brett Surace, Lindsay, Lauren and Logan Labiendo, a sister, Barbara Mattis of Maryland and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Dominic Surace who passed on March 1, 1997, her parents, a brother, Richard Madill and brother in law, Ronald Mattis.
