Allen L. Mitchell, 88, passed away Monday evening at his home on Three Mile Point Road under the care of his family and Hospice. He was born on January 4, 1927 in Clayton, the son of Leigh and Ethel Allen Mitchell. He attended and graduated from Lyme Central School in 1944. He married Jeanne L. Hewitt on August 2, 1947 in Cape Vincent at the Episcopal Church. He operated a farm on Macomb Settlement Road until moving to Millers Falls, MA. He owned and operated Estey's Garage in Orange, MA, for 20 years until retiring and selling to his son, Roger. After his retirement, he and his wife returned to the Hewitt family farm in Three Mile Bay. Allen loved and enjoyed being outdoors. He especially loved hunting, hiking, camping, snow shoeing and canoeing. He was an avid bird watcher, reader and loved to play golf, which he took up just 13 years ago. He also was a pilot owning his own plane and was an unofficial weatherman. Allen had a dry and unique sense of humor Surviving is his wife Jeanne, children: Roger (Elaine) Mitchell of Orange, MA, Kay (Gary) Woods of Springfield, MA, Susan (Thomas) Tanner of Miami, FL, Gail Mitchell of Frederick, MD. He has 9 grandchildren, 3 grandsons who predeceased him, 7 great grandchildren, a brother Robert Mitchell and family. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the family's farm at 1 pm on Saturday, September 19. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Methodist Church in Three Mile Bay.
