Obituary

GLEN PARK - Anne M. Brigham, 82, passed away Sept. 3, 2013, due to complications following bypass surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. Born Dec. 24, 1930, in Watertown she was the daughter of Flora Dona and Eber "Zeke" Carlisle. She graduated in 1948 from Black River High School, obtained a bachelor degree from Geneseo State College in 1953 and a masters from Glassboro State in New Jersey. She married William G. Brigham, Dec. 28, 1952. The couple lived in Naples, Italy, for two years while Mr. Brigham served in the Navy. Mr. Brigham died in 2001. Mrs. Brigham was a school librarian starting in the Carthage School District, working in a number of schools in New Jersey and then in the General Brown elementaries from 1968 until her retirement in 1990. She was active in a number of organizations. A communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville, she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Brownville Busy BGs, the Parish Road Home Bureau and Brownville Study Club. Along with her husband, she formerly was involved with Boy Scouts of America, acting as the Cub Scout Roundtable Director for a number of years. The Brighams also were instrumental in establishing the Cub Scout Day Camp program in this area. The Brighams belonged to the River Rovers chapter of the Family Campers and Rvers which Mrs. Brigham continued to be active with following her husband's death. In addition she belonged to Special Military Active and Retired Travelers (SMART) camping organization. Mrs. Brigham is survived by her four children, Catharine (John) Bates of Hartford, Conn.; David (Deborah) Brigham, Dexter; Elaine (Robert) Avallone of West Carthage; and Fred Brigham and his fiance Suzanne Bourgeois of Watertown; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Pistolese of Rutland and Florence (Richard) Ashcroft of Elkhart, Ind.; two brothers, Wayne Carlisle of Taylorsville, N.C. and William (Ann) of Herrings. Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnson's Funeral Home, 237 William St., Dexter. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Immaculate Conception Church, 119 W. Main St., Brownville. Burial will be in Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium. Anne was a giving soul who supported many causes. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
