Obituary

Arthur W. Marston Jr., 83, of 29918 NYS Rt. 3, Black River, passed February 13, 2014 at the Carthage Area Hospital. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. His body was donated to Upstate Medical University Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Born on May 24, 1930 in Canton, Maine son of Arthur W. and Emma Keene Marston Sr., he graduated in 1948 from Canton High School in Maine. Following school he grew sweet corn and later became a field manager for a canning company in Canton, Maine. From 1967 to 1995 he was an artificial inseminator technician in the Jefferson County area for Eastern Artificial Insemination Co. He then worked for the North Country Library System as a delivery man, retiring in 2003. He married Hope Irvin on August 28, 1961 in Crafton, PA. Mrs. Marston is a retired teacher and librarian from Case Middle School and a local award winning author of children books. Mr. Marston was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, former Sunday school teacher and Elder of Parkside Bible Church and a current member of DeFeriet Union Church. Among his survivors are his loving wife, Hope I. Marston, Black River, his loyal Bernese Mountain Dog, Heidi; a brother in law, Carlton Allen, Livermore, Maine; a niece and her husband, Betsey Allen Craig and Russell, Lynnbrook, Mass.; a nephew and his wife, Danny and Laurene Allen, Merrimack, NH and two grand nieces. A sister, Adria Allen passed before him. Donations may be made to the Holly Gaskin "Help Me Keep My Smile Fund" via Facebook. Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.
