THOUSAND ISLAND PARK, N.Y.  —  Audrey Archambo Simmonds, loving wife and mother, passed away Dec. 31, 2016, after a heartbreaking struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 81. A resident of Thousand Island Park, NY, on Wellesley Island, Audrey was born and raised in Phoenix, NY, and later lived in Blue Point, Long Island and Scotia, NY. She grew up loving all things outdoors, especially fishing on the Oswego River from the backyard of her family's home on Main Street in Phoenix, and later on the St. Lawrence River. A graduate of Phoenix High School in 1953, Audrey attended Syracuse University and began her career as a secretary at General Electric on Electronics Parkway in Syracuse, and later as a clerk at Glenridge Jewelers and an office manager for State Farm Insurance. Audrey's favorite place was in the kitchen, where she loved to cook and bake for her family and for others.  In her later years, Audrey was an advocate for the Thousand Island Park Library. She loved to read, and spent many hours volunteering at the library. It became her home away from home and she made countless friends in TIP through her service and warm, friendly smile. Audrey is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James Henry Simmonds Jr.; her six devoted children: Peter Simmonds (Joan) of Baldwinsville, NY; Patricia Azriel (Jay) of York, PA; James Simmonds (Mary) of Vashon, WA; William Simmonds of Poughkeepsie, NY; Audrey Guerrina (Sean) of Marcellus, NY; Sandra Peasley (Scott) of Boone, IA; her 10 grandchildren: Erin and Annie Simmonds, Jacob and Elan Azriel, Rhiannon Simmonds, Trevor, Tyler, and Tucker Guerrina, and Nicholas and Katherine Peasley; her older sister Nan Jarvis (Robert) of Phoenix; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Arthur "Pete" and Mabelle Archambo of Phoenix, and in September 2016 by her fraternal twin sister, Judy Houtenbrink of Waterloo, NY. A memorial luncheon will be held noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at the River Grill in Baldwinsville. A memorial service with friends will be held this summer at Thousand Island Park.
