Obituary

Beatrice E Doney, age 88 of Centennial Apartments, Watertown passed away at 8:30 P.M. Wednesday evening at her home. She was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Beatrice was born May 3, 1919 at St. Regis Falls, the daughter of Lyndon and Natalie LaPage Farmer. She graduated from St. Regis Falls High School. She married John E. Doney on December 23, 1937 in Watertown and the couple moved to Rosiere in 1944. They then moved to Lowville in 1950 and then to Dexter in 1960. Mr. Doney died in 1983. The Doney's owned and operated a moving and storage business in the late 30's, owned and operated several farms in the Rosiere and Lowville area in the 40's and 50's. In the 60's they owned and operated a wallpaper and paint store on State St. in Watertown. John owned and operated his own electrical business in the 70's and 80's and Beatrice worked for Weaver Real Estate in the late 60's before she obtained her own license and owned and operated Doney Realty in the 70's through the 90's. She retired in 2002. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Altar and Rosary Society of Dexter. She is survived by her son Floyd of Chittenango, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Jeanette Doney of Watertown, daughter and son-in-law James and Sharon Wheatcraft of Conesus,N.Y. and son Abraham of Watertown, daughter and son-in-law James and Karen Scordo of Watertown. A sister Mrs. Elizabeth Ploof and brother and sister-in-law Walt and Lorraine Farmer all of St. Regis Falls also survive. She has 35 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sons John Doney Jr. and Gary T. Doney and daughters Eunice Constance and Rose Carlo predeceased her. Brothers Oliver D. Farmer, William Farmer, James Farmer and Albert Farmer and sisters Margaret Farmer, Flora Farmer and Thelma Farmer also predeceased her. A funeral mass will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville with Fr. Kevin O'Brien, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or American Cancer Society.
