Obituary

Betsy A. LaClair, age 59 of Pearl St., Philadelphia, N.Y. passed away 3:00a.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter RaeAnne LaFave. She had been battling cancer for several years. She was born August 23, 1947 in Watertown, the daughter of Harry M. and Joyce Vorce Purcell. She graduated from Indian River Central High School in 1965 and from Jefferson Community College in 1996 of Independent Studies. Betsy married Raymond C. LaClair on July 9, 1966 at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Raymond passed away on October 31, 1986. She was employed by Jefferson County Department of Social Services as a Social Welfare Examiner and retired April 29, 2004 due to illness. She was a member of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Philadelphia Fire Auxiliary, Indian River Central Booster Club, Quakerette Red Hats, Weaver Family & Friends Relay for Life Team, A.F.S. and formerly a member of Eastern Stars. She enjoyed high school sports as an avid fan always found in the bleachers or by the field. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Robert RaeAnne LaFave of Philadelphia, grandchildren BrynneMarion LaFave and Ayden Robert LaFave and Jovyn Rae LaFave of Philadelphia. She has sisters -Janet L. Purcell-Weetter of Tampa, Florida, Cathy L. Leddy of Philadelphia, Carol K. Purcell-Mitchell of Ithaca and brothers James and Shari Purcell of Concord, N.H. and John F. Purcell of Baldwinsville, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. Funeral services will be held 10th of March at 10:00 a.m. and calling hours are Friday. at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church with pastor Penny Farrington officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Donations may be made to Betsy LaClair Indian River Spirit Scholarship Fund % RaeAnne LaFave 2 Pearl St., Philadelphia, N.Y. 13673, Hospice of Jefferson County or United Methodist Church Philadelphia in lieu of flowers.
