Obituary

Betty M. Gulley, 78, of 336 W. Main St., Watertown, NY, passed November 12, 2014 at her home where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

The funeral service will be Noon, Friday, November 14th at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River, with the Rev. Leon VanWie officiating.  Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.

Calling hours will precede the funeral on Friday from 10 A.M. to Noon at the Bruce Funeral Home.

Born on January 9, 1936 in Black River, NY, daughter of John and Rhea Boynton Lennox, she attended Black River High School.

Following school she married Earl H. Champion on January 13, 1951 in the Rectory at the Black River United Methodist Church.  The marriage later ended in divorce.  She married Braxton L. Gulley on October 27, 1975 in Gladwin, Michigan where the couple resided until returning to Watertown in 1990.  Betty was a homemaker raising ten children.  Mr. Gulley then passed on February 12, 1998.

She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed reading, playing cards, embroidery and spending time with her family.

Among her survivors are two daughters and a son in law, Betty Marie and David Doty, FL, Ruth Gulley and her companion Paul Roy, Farwell, MI; six sons and three daughters in law, Howard and Brenda Champion, Cato, NY William and Linda Champion, Mattydale, NY, Matthew and Teresa Champion, FL, Timothy Champion, Fulton, NY, James Gulley and his companion Sandy Cummings, Watertown, Christopher Gulley and his companion Allison Champion, Kirkville, NY; a stepson, William McLaughlin; two sisters and a brother in law, Sandra and Richard Johnson, Watertown, Barbara Simmons, Watertown; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Two sons, Mark Champion, Richard Champion, a sister, Elaine Lennox, three brothers, John, Richard and Robert Lennox and a stepson, Braxton Gulley Jr. all passed before her.
