Obituary

Carol M. Hunter, age 63 of Three Mile Pt. Rd. Chaumont, passed away Saturday afternoon at her home under the care of her family. Carol was born October 5, 1949 in Alexandria Bay, N.Y. the daughter of Byron and Verna Thompson McAvoy. She graduated from Hammond Central School, attended Ithaca College and graduated from Potsdam State Teachers College. Carol married Robert G. Hunter on January 9, 1971 at the Hammond Presbyterian Church. The couple lived in Brownville for several years and moved to Chaumont. Carol taught Math at Copenhagen Central and retired from General Brown Central after 30 years of teaching. She also was a tax preparer for over 35 years working from her home. She was a member of the Brownville United Methodist Church where she was treasurer, choir director and organist for many years. She was also a member of NYSUT, NYS Income Tax Preparers as an Enrolled Agent. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, basket weaving, sewing, knitting, candle, wine, and soap making. She is survived by her husband Robert and three sons and their spouses: Michael and Rebecca of New Woodstock, Jonathan and Tara of Marion, Bradley and Becki of Rochester. Two grandchildren- Robert and Morgan and her father Byron of Carthage, sisters Reva Flamand of St. Lake City, Utah and Ellen McAvoy of Canastota and nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Brownville United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. She will be cremated. Donations may be made to Three Mile Bay Fire and Rescue Squad in lieu of flowers.
