Catherine J. LaVancha, age 46 of Castorland, died at her home Saturday morning. She had been ill and on disability for several years. She was born July 13, 1960 in Syracuse, the daughter of Andy and June Ross Chaission. She attended school in LaFargeville where she was being brought up by her uncle and aunt Wilbur and Vivian Premo. A marriage to Richard LaVancha ended in divorce. She was a homemaker and had lived in Carthage and moved to Castorland about seven years ago. She is survived by her father Andy Chaission of Syracuse and the following children- Charles D. Batsford of Carthage, Mrs. Douglas Melissa A. LaLone of Castorland, Joseph R. Batsford of Watertown. Her fiancee' James A. Sanders of Castorland. Her aunt Vivian Premo of Watertown who raised her. She has eight grandchildren. She also has the following brothers and sisters. Renee' Chaission, Dawn Chaission, Chucky Chaission, Mark Chaisssion, Andrea Chaission, Mike Chaission addresses unknown, June Bell of Watertown, Wilbur Premo Jr. of Tennessee, Bobby Premo of N. Carolina, Gary Premo of S. Carolina, Katie Wadington of Ohio. She was predeceased by a sister Sharon Premo. A private service will be held Thursday at the Brownville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Hospice of Lewis or Jefferson County. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
