Obituary

Charles E. VanSickle Jr., 66, of 4532 Kennedy Dr., New Port Richey, FL and formerly of Black River, passed June 26, 2014 at the North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, FL. He was born on July 24, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Charles E. Van Sickle Sr. and Jacqueline Bennett, he graduated from Center Line High School in Michigan. He entered the U.S. Army on September 17, 1966. He married Nadine E. Melone on August 14, 1968 in Killeen, TX while stationed at Fort Hood. The couple resided throughout the US while he served in the military. He retired from the military with an honorable discharge on September 30, 1990. He received many medals including two Purple Hearts, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. The couple then resided in Black River. He worked the next ten years as a civilian employee on Fort Drum at the POV Lot. Mrs. VanSickle passed April 14, 2007. He was a member of the Black River American Legion Post #673, Sons of the Black River American Legion, Black River VFW, member of the American Legion Paradise Post #79 in New Port Richey, Fl and a Trustee at the New Port Richey VFW Post # 7987. He enjoyed golfing and visiting family and friends. Among his survivors are his two daughters and their husbands; Kim Marie and Kevin Potter, McDade, TX, Connie L. and Kevin Kerr, New Port Richey, FL, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; four brothers and a sister in law, Bruce Van Sickle, FL, Randy VanSickle, HI, Richard VanSickle, MI, and David and Reney VanSickle, MI; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, a son, Charles J. Van Sickle, a daughter, Cathie J. VanSickle and a brother, Ronald VanSickle all passed before him. Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 3 with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River. Burial with military honors will be in the Black River Cemetery.  Following the burial there will be a Celebration of Life at the Black  River American Legion.
