Obituary

A Funeral Mass for Charles H. Wilton, 87, formerly of 195 Le Ray St., Black River will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Black River Cemetery. Mr. Wilton died Friday, April 15 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center where he had been a resident. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bruce Funeral Home.

Born on January 31, 1929, in Syracuse, son of Charles & Katherine (Bell) Wilton, he graduated from Felts Mills High School in 1946.

Following school he worked at St. Regis Paper Co. until he was drafted on November 7, 1950 into the US Army.  He was honorably discharged May 31, 1952.

Upon his discharge he returned to St. Regis Paper Co. where he worked up until he retired in 1989.

He married Nancy Denny, on September 13, 1952 at St. Paul's Catholic Church.  The couple resided in Black River. Nancy worked at Welch-Walton Insurance Agency, was a homemaker and later worked at St. Regis Paper Co., retiring in 1987.  The couple moved to Syracuse and resided at Menorah Park in 2008.

Mr. Wilton coached little league baseball, American Legion baseball teams and basketball for St. Paul's Church for many years.

Among his survivors are two sons and a daughter in law, Charles A. and Cindy Wilton of Syracuse, Richard J. Wilton of Tampa, FL, a daughter and son in law, Amy W. and Gary A. Thackston, Liverpool: a sister, Rosemarie Cross, Felts Mills, a sister in law, Rhetta Wilton, Las Vegas; 4 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

His wife Nancy passed in 2008 and a brother John Wilton and a brother in law, Gardner Cross died before him
