Obituary

Clara R. Hermann, 93, of Calcium, New York, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, at Novant Health Center in Huntersville, North Carolina.

Clara was born on July 15, 1933, in Watertown, New York, the daughter of Floyd and Clara Belle (Pike) LaSalle. She graduated from Evans Mills High School in 1950.

On March 25, 1951, Clara married John A. Hermann at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. John passed away on June 25, 2019 after 68 years of marriage.

Clara had many interests. She was a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge 496, the North Pole Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Pine Grove Grange, and a member of the BG's Senior Citizens Club. She also loved going to the casino, watching game shows, and viewing sporting events. For many years, she also enjoyed joining her husband on trips, as he was employed as a motorcoach operator for Freeman Bus Corporation.

Clara was the true definition of selflessness and sacrifice. She was a devoted homemaker who took immense pride in raising and caring for her family. Whether working alongside her husband on the farm, creating a loving home, or being actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives, Clara gave her whole heart to everything she did. She truly did it all!

Her presence brought warmth and joy to any room with her infectious smile and kind heart. She made life a little brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know her. She always had a “the more the merrier” mindset and there was always room for one more at her table. If you spent time with Clara, you were better for it.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (David) Petrie, David Hermann, Catherine (Lawrence) Cupernall, Debbie (Mike) Weaver, Diane Kilburn, Barbie (Phil) Sweeney, Fred (Nancy) Hermann, Steve Hermann, Julie (Bob) Park, and Ellie (Jeff) Minnick; several generations of grandchildren; a sister, Mary Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John A. Hermann; her parents; her brothers, Milo LaSalle and Carl LaSalle; her sister, Patricia Drappo; her son-in-law, Butch Kilburn; as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank her personal caregivers, the team at Meadowbrook Terrace and Novant Health for excellent care.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 6 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church.

Due to Clara’s bold approach to life, her love for accessorizing through color and sparkle, and the family’s desire to honor her vivacious spirit and zest for life, they invite everyone to wear red to her Celebration of Life.

Donations in Clara’s memory may be made to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation Hospice and Palliative Care Fund Donation Link and St. Jude Children's Hospital Donation Link.
