Obituary

Dawn M. Remington, 61, St. Lawrence Avenue West,Brownville, passed away in the early morning hours of July 10thafter a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dawn was born on November 28, 1954, the daughter of the late Lyle and Jeanne (Ruttan) Pitkin of Dexter. Dawn was predeceased by her father, Lyle, on December 3, 2001, and her mother, Jeanne, on February 12, 2015. Dawn attended General Brown High School and graduated in 1972. After graduation, she attended Jefferson Community College where she obtained an Associate's Degree and her RN in Nursing in 1974, and then went on to attend SUNYCollege of Technology at Utica-Rome where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1976. Dawn went to work for Jefferson County Public Health in 1976, where she was a Nursing Supervisor and was in charge of the County's Infectious Disease Control Program. During her tenure with Public Health, Dawn was instrumental in the development and opening of the North County Children's Clinic and served on the Board of Directors for many years. Dawn worked for Jefferson County Public Health for 30 yearsand retired in December 2006 due to her progressing illness. Dawn married Eugene A. Remington of Brownville on August 6, 1976at the Methodist Church in Brownville. Gene worked forTownship Telephone(TDS) in Chaumont as a telephone technicianfor more than 34 years and retired in2009 to care for Dawn. Dawn was a lifelong resident of Dexter/Brownville and was residing in the Village of Brownville with her husband, Gene, upon her death. Dawn enjoyed bowling, playing the piano/organ, fishing, trap shooting, arts & crafts, and spending time with her family and many nieces and nephews. Dawn was the ultimate loving Aunt who made of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. Dawn is survived by her husband, Gene, of Brownville, her twobrothers and their wives - Mr. David (Sarah) Pitkin, Dexter, and Mr. Darrin (Cathy) Pitkin, Dexter; and her sister and husband - Mrs. Debra (Anthony) Powell, Dexter. She is also survivedby 12 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday (July 14th) from 5pm - 7pm at the Johnson Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in Dawn's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York or the Jefferson County SPCA.
