Obituary

Deborah Matteson Carpenter, 73, of Watertown, New York, passed away on June 13, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center.

Born on June 18, 1952, in Watertown, New York, she was the daughter of Murray and Betty (Farrell) Matteson. Debbie pursued higher education and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She dedicated many years of compassionate service to the patients of Mercy Hospital in Watertown, where she worked as an RN. Several years after Mercy Hospital closed, she went on to become a medical transcriptionist, providing several years of service to local offices before retiring.

Debbie was first married to Peter Kornfeld, and together they had two sons before their divorce. On June 3, 2000, she married Ricky L. Carpenter. The couple made their home in Watertown.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ricky L. Carpenter; her two sons, Kurt Kornfeld of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Walker Kornfeld of Watertown, New York; two stepdaughters, Michelle Carpenter and her partner, Nick Fairbanks, of Buffalo, New York, and Deanna (Jason) Leary of Buffalo, New York; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Noel) Townsend of Black River, New York; her brother and sister-in-law, Steve (Jeanette) Matteson of Carthage, New York; her grandson, Orion; her granddaughters, Gianna and Marissa; her step-granddaughter, Tylar; and her step-grandsons, Seth and Dagon.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, the family will hold a private Celebration of Life soon after her cremation.
