Obituary

Donald J. Bachner, 65 of Sackets Harbor passed away Wednesday evening at his home under the care of Hospice and his family. Don once he met you would always call you by your first name. Donald was born July 26, 1949 in Watertown, the son of Martin and Dorothy Guyette Bachner. He graduated from Sackets Harbor High School. A marriage to Sandra Thompson ended in divorce. He married Mary R. Frost on August 28, 1999 in Sackets Harbor. Donald worked for his parents at the Sackets Inn, was a bus driver for General Brown Central School, worked for NYSDOT building a water line, was a bouncer at Benny's Steak House and Blue Ridge Country Club. He then went to work for Sackets Harbor Central School as a bus driver and custodian for 31 years. He drove limousine for Lime Lite Limo Service. Don was a member of Sackets Harbor Fire Dept. for 48 years and was active with the Ambulance Squad as an EMT. He loved going to children's sporting events and on band trips. He was an avid Yankee Fan. He is survived by his wife Mary, a son Derreck Bachner of Maryland, a daughter Nicole Bachner of Sackets Harbor, step-children: Darin Seamon of Plymouth, NC, Laurie Gleason of Carthage, grandson Benjamin Bachner of Sackets Harbor, step grandchildren Chelsey and Gunnar Seamon of N. C. and Brittany Gleason of Carthage and Kevin Gleason of Watertown. Brothers: Richard and Margaret Bachner of Bluffton, S.C., Frederick and Mary Bachner of Dryden, Robert and Lauren Bachner of Ravena, a sister Irene Farmer of Liverpool and nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Jean Golden and a sister Shirley Anne Bachner in infancy. Funeral services will be Sunday June 21st at 2:00 PM at the First United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor with Rev. Melody Long officiating. Burial will be private at Lakeside Cemetery in Sackets Harbor. Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, Sackets Harbor Fire Dept. and Ambulance Squad or the Sackets Harbor Central School Booster Club.
