Donald E. Jewett, 78, of 23779 Knowlesville Road, Watertown, passed May 12, 2016 at the Samaritan Medical Center.
A Funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday, May 16 at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville. A prayer service will be held 10 a.m., prior to the Mass, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.
Burial with military honors will follow in Parish Road Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 15 at the funeral home.
Born on May 21, 1937 in Watertown, son of Donald and Ida Sackett Jewett, he graduated from Copenhagen Central School in 1956.
Following school he entered the US Navy and served until September 19, 1956 and transferred into the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged September 12, 1958 as a Corporal.
He married Marcia A. Tabolt on April 18, 1959 at St. Peter's' Catholic Church in Lowville. The couple resided in the Town of Pamelia.
Mr. Jewett worked at St. Regis Paper Co. later known as Champion International for thirty seven years, retiring in 1993 as a Shipping Supervisor. His wife was a homemaker.
Following his retirement he went on to work for NYS Senator James Wright as a Legislative Assistant, he served the Town of Pamelia as Assessor and Supervisor, he was a member of the Fire Department, the Grange and past citizen of the year in the Town of Pamelia, and former board member of the Sacred Heart Foundation.
He was a member of the Lowville Marine Corp. League in Lowville where he was a past Commandant, member of the Philadelphia American Legion, and Life Member of the St. Regis Rod and Gun Club. He owned a camp on Soft Maple Reservoir for 47years, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, motorcycle rides, and was an avid dirt track and NASCAR Fan.
Among his survivors are his loving wife, Marcia A. Jewett, Pamelia; two sons and a daughter in law, Dale L. Jewett and his companion, Kelly Kavedine, Pamelia, D.J. and Pam Jewett, Brownville; four daughters and their husbands, Christine A. and Frank LaFlair, Pamelia, Rhonda S. and Brian Weaver, Owego, Laure L. and Dan Siver, Chaumont, Becky L. and Wayne Flath, Dexter; a brother and sister in law, Thomas and Franny Jewett, Watertown; three sisters and a brother in law, Yvonne Thompson, Limerick, Diane and Bernard Martin, Champion, Linda Jewett, Watertown; a sister in law, Judy Jewett, Brownville; 12 grand, 12 great grand, 1 great great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.
A great grandson, Timothy Queior, two brothers Kilton Jewett and Dalon Jewett, and his father and mother in law, Fredrick and Amy Tabolt all died before him.
Donations may be made to American Heart Association and the multiple Sclerosis Association.
