Dora M. Kirkby, age 92 formerly of Chaumont passed away at 11:15 P.M. at Samaritan Keep Home Friday evening. She had resided there since September of 1998. Dora was born September 27, 1915 in Jasper Ontario Canada the daughter of Clifford and Hazel Stacey Connell. She attended Watertown High School and married Arthur Kirkby on December 24, 1934 in Watertown. The couple lived in Chaumont area where they owned and operated a farm. Mr. Kirkby died March 26, 1986. Dora worked at the Clayton Knitting Mill as a machine operator making swimsuits and later worked at Pine Cleaners in Watertown. She retired in 1976 as Manager of Lyme Central School Cafeteria. She was a member of the Depauville Methodist Church, former member of Rebecca's and Brownville Busy Bee Gees. She is survived by two foster sons: Bob Parrotte of Texas and Irwin "Joe" Parrotte of Carmichael, California. She has two grandchildren Mrs. Michael Dorrie Pepe of Watertown and Jeffrey and Joanne Kirkby of Evans Mills. Three great grandchildren Joey Pepe of Watertown, Dale and Alex Kirkby of Evans Mills and a brother Delmer Connell of Dexter and son-in-law Robert Kizzer of Watertown and daughter-in-law Sandra Kirkby of Evans Mills also survive. She also has several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Shirley Kizzer in 2003 and her son James Kirkby in 2004. She is also predeceased by brothers Clifford Connell Jr., Walter Connell and Nelson Connell and a sister Mabel Eldridge. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. She will be cremated and buried at Dexter Cemetery. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Donations may be made to Depauville Methodist Church.
