Obituary

Dr. Doris M. Tuttle, age 89 of Fairmont Ave., Watertown passed away at 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning at Samaritan Medical Center. Doris was born April 25, 1919 in Dexter. She was the daughter of John F. and Ada P. Trembley Lamon. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1937, Watertown School of Commerce in 1938; she received a Bachelors Degree from Syracuse University in 1968 and her Master's degree in Business Education from Syracuse University in 1969. In 1976 she received her Doctorates Degree in Educational Administration from Syracuse University. Dr. Tuttle worked for the Thousand Islands State Park Commission for several years. Later, she was a professor at Jefferson Community College from 1968-1978 when she retired. Dr. Tuttle was married to Ward R. Thompson, who died in 1962. She married James Allen Tuttle in 1964. Mr. Tuttle was supervisor for the water treatment plant in Watertown and later Clay, N.Y. before he was killed in an auto accident in September 1979. In 1987 she married Leslie G. Day who died December 18, 1993. Dr. Tuttle was a member of Dexter United Methodist Church, Dexter Grange, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 352 of Oswego, N.Y.S. Retired Teachers, J.C.C. Women's Club, and Delta Pi Epsilon fraternity, AARP, American Legion Auxiliary Post 61 of Watertown and VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 1400 of Watertown, New and Greater Senior Citizens Club of Watertown, Dexter Senior Citizens. Dr. Tuttle is survived by a sister Rosetta Gould Dillenbeck of Dexter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother Clarence Lamon in 1997. A graveside service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the Dexter Cemetery. There are no callings hours. Donations may be made to the Dexter United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
