Dorothy Delles, 93, of NYS Rt. 3, Felts Mills, passed March 29, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Born on April 18, 1923 in Belleville, NY, daughter of Lyle W. and Mabel V. (Fuller) Nichols, she was the twelfth generation descendent of John Howland who arrived on the May Flower. She attended Freeman Creek School in the Town of Rodman and Adams Center High School.
She married Leo A. Delles on October 15, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Evans Mills. The couple resided in Felts Mills. Her husband passed in January of 1996.
Dorothy went to work at Mercy Hospital in October of 1963 and worked as a house keeping aid in the Madonna Home until 1985.
She was a member of the Watertown Baptist Temple, Champion Grange, Life Member and on the Board of Directors of the 4 Rivers Historical Society, Daughters of 1812, Felts Mills Fire Department Auxiliary, Life Member of the Philadelphia American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Revolutionary War.
Among her survivors are two brothers and a sister in law, Bernard and Jean Nichols, Georgia, John Nichols and his companion Son Yae Nicholson, Carthage; three sisters and a brother in law, Marcella Reasoner, Watertown, Myrtle Hadley, Carthage, Sheila and Charles Lennox, Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at the Watertown Baptist Temple.
Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery.
