Douglas A. Ward, 87, of Watertown, NY, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025 at Samaritan Summit Village, where he had been a resident.
Douglas was born on June 24, 1938, in Watertown, the son of Lorne and Carmen (Dodge) Ward. He graduated from Lyme Central School in 1957 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting on September 11, 1957. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1961, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his military service, Douglas worked for 29 years at Brownville Specialty Paper Products Company in Brownville, retiring on January 1, 2000.
On October 8, 1988, he married Marianne C. Babick in Watertown. Together, they were active members of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and former members of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Douglas enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, and watching sports. He was an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees fan.
Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy A. and Thomas Adams of Cape Vincent, NY; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy A. and Rosa Ward of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Stephen A. Ward of Lewisburg, OH; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cynthia L. and Brien Spooner of Dexter, NY; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Marianne C. Ward.
Calling hours will be held Noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 21st at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N Massey St., Watertown. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association.
