Obituary

Edley C. Brown passed away suddenly at his home in Perch River on Tuesday July 14, 2015.Born on May 16,1935 to Kenneth M. and Cecelia C. Castro Brown, he was educated in Watertown City Schools..Upon graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served 2 years, followed by 9 years in the Marine Corps.(which he was most proud of). He then finished out the remainder of his honorable 22 years of service with the N.Y. National Guard. A marriage to Esther Fleming ended in divorce. He Married Ruth "Joyce" Downey on August 23, 1969 and the two enjoyed a happy, and loving relationship until her passing in May of 2014. Among her survivors are his children: Marcie (John) Cleary of Watertown, Clifford(Jane) Downey of Norwood, Roseanne(Woody)Palmer of Gouverneur, Kevin (Cindy) Downey of Brownville and Sarah (David) Pitkin of Dexter. Many grandchildren,great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; too numerous to list. Three sisters: Barbara Lockman of Watertown, Nicolina Goutermout and Joan (Mike) Mistersaro of Adams. Also many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he was pre-deceased by a brother Richard Brown, a son Kenny Brown and a daughter Pamela Fuller. Edley had many hobbies including gardening and rock hounding. He most enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Amazingly ,he never tired of beating any of us in a game of cards! Calling hours will be Friday July 17,2015 from 1-3. The funeral will be at 3 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery, Watertown.
