Taylor

Esther E. Taylor, 99, passed January 14, 2015 at the Samaritan Summit Villages where she had been a resident. She was born on December 25, 1915 in the Town of Champion, daughter of William M. and Ruth L. Slater Brower. Esther graduated from LaFargeville High School in 1943. Following school she married Floyd F. Taylor, of Black River, on October 19, 1935 at the home of her parents in LaFargeville. The couple purchased a dairy farm in the Town of Champion in 1935 which they owned and operated up until 1955. From 1955 to 1960 they then owned and operated a business in Copenhagen selling farm machinery. In 1960 they moved to Philadelphia and Esther worked at the Globe Store in Watertown and the Indian River Cafeteria for seven years. They moved to Sackets Harbor in 1981 where she cared for her mother who lived to be 102. Esther was a very active member of the Great Bend Grange, the Star Grange in Sulphur Springs, was a member of the National, State, and Jefferson County Pamona Grange for over 65 years, Secretary for the Pamona Grange in Jefferson County for 24 years and held several offices in the subordinate granges. She was a Four H Leader, Sunday school teacher at the Felts Mills Church of Christ and the Philadelphia Methodist Church, Deacon and Volunteer at the Sackets Harbor United Presbyterian Church, life member and volunteer of the River Valleys Historical Society, member of the Rebecca Lodge and Past Noble Grand in Philadelphia. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, and mowed her own lawn until she was 84. Among her survivors are two sons and their wives, Robert F. and Jeannette Taylor, Malabar, FL, Gerald W. and Ann B. Taylor, Summerfield, FL; a daughter, Kay E. Taylor, Watertown; three grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, two sisters, Betty LaRose, Altha Lapp and a brother Edgar Brower all passed before her. The funeral service and calling hours will take place in the spring at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will then follow in the Black River Cemetery.
