Eugene A. "Gus" DeVito Sr., 73, 17643 US Rt. 11, Watertown, passed March 29, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.
Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 2nd at the Hart & Bruce Funeral, Watertown. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Born on November 23, 1941 in Watertown, NY, son of Joseph and Ruby Derouin DeVito, he attended Watertown Schools.
He married Sallie Kenyon of Watertown on February 21, 1959 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Watertown. She passed June 1, 1997.
Mr. DeVito drove tractor trailer for the Teamsters Union for several years, owned and operated DeVito's Enterprises in Great Bend and Geno's Diner at five corners in Black River, and he was the caretaker at Immaculate Conception Church and the Parish Center in Brownville for many years.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Watertown , enjoyed spending time at his camper at Hidden Harbor on Point Peninsula, going to the Club House in Watertown with his buddies and always loved to work out a good deal with friends and family.
Among his survivors are his two daughters and their husbands, Vickie J. and David J. Olney, Copenhagen, Maria L. and Ken P. West, Watertown; four sons and two daughters in law, Eugene A. DeVito Jr., GA, Lewis F. and Mindy DeVito, Las Vegas, NV, Jeffrey S. and Doreen DeVito, MI, Jay M. DeVito, Watertown; a sister and brother in law, Marie and Tim Timmons, SC; nine grandchildren; Kylie Olney, Lindsey Cean, Brandon, Sam, Morgan, Sally, Luke, Jeffrey and Thomas DeVito; two great grandchildren, Dominic and Kaelyn Cean, several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is his beloved companion of fifteen years, Nancy J. Pomerville; her daughter, Kristina Hernandez, Copenhagen; her son and daughter in law, Mark and Courtney Pomerville, Great Bend and three grandchildren.
Besides his parents his brother, Joseph DeVito and sister, Louise Cowan passed before him.
Mr. DeVito has been a devoted care giver for his disabled son Jay for forty years. In his memory the family would like donations to be made to the Disabled Persons Action Organization 617 Davidson St., Watertown or to NNY Cerebral Palsy Association 714 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.
