Obituary

Eugene E. Pond, age 87 of Brownville passed away Thursday at Samaritan Medical Center. Eugene was born May 6, 1922 in Parish, the son of Ernest and Celia Greenley Pond. He graduated from Brownville-Glen Park High School and began college at Cornell University. College was interrupted by World War 11 where he served in the Navy from 1942 until1946. Following his service time he returned to Cornell and received a BS Degree in 1948. Eugene married Elaine M. Conklin on October 16, 1948 at the Brownville United Methodist Church. Eugene worked for G.L.F. from 48-52; owned and operated Brownville- Glen Park Dairy from 1953-1967. He then worked for N.Y.S. Agriculture and Market as a meat inspector from 1967-1975 and inspected milk from 1975-1987 when he retired. Eugene was a member of Brownville United Methodist Church and served on several church boards, taught adult classes from 1983 and sang in the church choir until health failed. He was also a member of Brownville American Legion Post 588, Senior Automotive Bowling League and enjoyed Christian Literature and listening to the Syracuse Christian Radio. He also assisted with Boy Scout activities. He also enjoyed world affairs and vacationing with family. He is survived by his wife Elaine, a daughter Mrs. Gary ( Carol) Compeau of Essex Jct., Vermont, and sons Errol E. and Donna Pond of Gilbert, AZ, Dale W. Pond of Casa Grande, AZ and Mark A.. Pond of Payson, AZ. He also has grandchildren Beckford Compeau, Matthew Pond, Cara Pond, Joseph Pond and Aubrey Pond and great granddaughter Lauren Compeau. A brother Glenn and Betty Pond of Saranac Lake, sisters Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Oliver of Spring Hills, FL. And Mrs. Charles (Thelma) Seamans of Chittenango, and Mrs. Wilbur (Ernestine) McKenzie of Hilton and several nieces and nephews also survive. A sister Grace Lenz predeceased him. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at the Brownville United Methodist with Rev. Patricia Walz officiating. Burial will be in Brownville Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10:00 -11:00 on Wednesday at the church. Donations may be made to Brownville United Methodist Memorial Fund. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
