Obituary

Evelyn M. Cean, age 82 of Dexter, died Sunday afternoon May 25th at her home. She had been under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Evelyn was born February 27, 1926 in Dexter, the daughter of Russell and Gladys Cramer Desmore. She graduated from Dexter High School and married Niles K. Cean on April 9, 1943 at the brides' home in Dexter. The couple lived in Dexter then moved to Florida for 15 years and returned to Dexter in 1975. Mr. Cean died May 27th, 1994. She had worked as a bus driver, waitress, worked in a meat market and was the book keeper for Tri-County Builders. She was a devoted mother to her three children whom she enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, France and sailing in the British Virgin Islands t visit Hawaii, Texas and Las Vegas. When not traveling she would visit their homes from Georgia, to New Hampshire and Arizona. She was an avid book reader and doing crosswords or puzzles and playing cards with her grandchildren. She is survived by her son Terry and his wife Jeanie with whom she lived with. Her two daughters, Charlotte Wellborn and Mary Huot and her husband Don all of New Hampshire. Her four grandchildren, Tammy, Allen, Marsha and Michele and her five great grandchildren, Michael, Ashlee, Cory, Hannah and Jacob, a sister Kathryn Erney of Dolgeville and several nieces and nephews also survive her. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, with the Rev. Gail Parsons of First United Presbyterian Church of Dexter officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St. Watertown, N.Y. 13601.
