Fernand A. "Jim" DuPre, 97, of 159 Haney St., passed August 27, 2017, at the Jefferson County Hospice Residence.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in the N. Watertown Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 30 at the funeral home.
Born on November 11, 1919, in Lowell, Massachusetts, son of Alexander and Amanda Parent DuPre, he graduated from Champlain Academy in Champlain, NY.
Following school he worked for the Civilian Conservation Camp in the Adirondack's before entering the US Army on January 11, 1938. He was honorably discharged March 3, 1941, as a Private, from Headquarters & Headquarters Battery 5th Field Artillery Battalion.
Mr. DuPre was called back into active duty on April 4, 1944 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged February 10, 1946 and received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
Upon returning home he worked at the New York Air Brake for 27 years, retiring as supervisor in 1981.
He was a member of the Jefferson County Association Ham Radio Club, Black River Fiddlers Association, NYS Old Time Fiddlers Association, was an avid fiddler and played fiddle every Tuesday night at the Ham Jam, former Life Member of the North Side Improvement League, Life Member of the Sackets Harbor American Legion, 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, President of the Catholic Men's Association at St. Anthony's Church, former Communication Chief for the Civil of Defense in Jefferson County, instructor for Basic Electronics 1 and 2 at Boces for Ham Radio operating and a member of the TI Go Kart Racing Association.
He married Pearl Whitford on June 16, 1941 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and worked as a lunch monitor for the Watertown School District for 15 years. She passed February 22, 2011.
Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene A. and Robin S. Reynolds, Watertown, two sons and a daughter-in-law, James F. and Kathy DuPre, FL, Craig S. DuPre, Watertown, a sister, Gertrude Wright, Massachusetts, and his companion, Betty More, Watertown, 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he is predeceased by a brother Roger DuPre, two sisters, Doris Gay, Lorraine DuPre and a sister, Yevette DuPre who died at the age of two.
