FRISCO, TEXAS - Fordie L. Plantz, 70, formerly of Watertown, NY, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 3, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Plano, Texas, with family at his side.
A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sackets Harbor with Father Robert Aucoin and Father Mike Gaffney officiating. A gathering will follow at Goodfellos Restaurant on Main Street, Sackets Harbor.
Fordie was born in Watertown, the son of Levi and Virginia Plantz. He attended General Brown Schools and graduated in 1962. Following a four year enlistment with the Navy Seabees, he settled in Brownville and retired from National Grid as a Hot Stick Line Foreman after 32 years of service.
He was an officer for the IBEW during his employment years. He was very active in village operations serving as a volunteer Fireman, Police Officer and Mayor.
Fordie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jane; daughters Debra (David) Russell and Kelli Bell and a son Michael (Mechelle) Plantz. A daughter Tina Augustus predeceased him. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Other survivors include two sisters, Theresa Stinson and Flossie Miner; two brothers, Theodore Plantz and David LaRock, and step brothers Jack, Stephen, Denny, Michael and Patrick Lane. A sister Virginia Bice and a brother Levi Jr. predeceased him. A memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Central New York, in care of Jessica Mastrobattista, 5005 Campuswood Drive, East Syracuse, New York 13057 or a charity of one's choice.
