Obituary

Frederick N. Longamore, 75, of 131 East Remington St., Black River, passed August 30, 2015 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3rd at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

The funeral service will be 11 am Friday, September 4th at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Black River Cemetery.

Born on October 19, 1939 in Evans Mills, son of the late Floyd W. and Carrie E. (Lewis) Longamore, he attended Adams Center Schools.

Following school he was a dairy farmer in Rodman for three years. He entered the US Army on December 1, 1960 and served during the Vietnam War.  He was a drill sergeant, stationed at Fort Jackson South Carolina, for trainees going to Vietnam and was honorably discharged on November 29, 1963 as a Staff Sergeant.

He married Gloria Hutton on August 31, 1963 at the Emmanuel Congregational Church in Watertown.  The couple resided in Rodman at which time he worked for the NYS Conservation Department.  In 1971 they moved to Black River and he worked for NY Air Brake as a machinist for 38 years, retiring in 2002.  Gloria retired from the Samaritan Medical Center as an RN.

He enjoyed fishing, astronomy and spending time with his family and his two cats.  He was an avid Yankees fan and collected Yankees mementos. Over the years he also enjoyed woodworking and renovating his home making all of his own kitchen cabinets.

He was a former member of Faith Fellowship Church in Watertown. Due to hearing problems he was unable to enjoy church in the later years but maintained a strong faith in the Lord.

Among his survivors are his loving wife of 52 years, Gloria L. Longamore, Black River; a son, Peter F. Longamore, Dexter; three daughters and two sons in law, Brenda L. and Donald Ratledge, Watertown, Rebecca S. Walker, Felts Mills, Barbara J. Long-Cook and Deren Cook, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; two sisters and a brother in law, Nancy A. and Gary Schneeberger, Lowville, Shelby J. Campbell, Fairport, NY; several nieces and nephews.

A granddaughter, Alexandra Lydia Longamore Stagner passed in 2011; five brothers, Stephen H., Floyd W. (Bill), Donald L., Richard J. and  Robert L. Longamore and a sister, June M. Beebee all died before him.
