Obituary

Gary Lee Kehne, 74, of 29022 NYS Rt. 37, Evans Mills, passed October 8, 2017 at his home.

Calling hours will be on Monday October 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.  The funeral service with military honors will follow the calling hours.

He was born on December 6, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Gerald and Hazle Mohler Kehne.

Following school he entered the military in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and National Guard.  During that time he served in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendations Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  He was honorably discharged and retired on February 2, 2002 as a Staff Sergeant.  While serving in the military he attended the University of Maryland, Swetzichen and West Germany. Gary worked for the Samaritan Medical Center from September of 1976 until he retired on October 5, 2001 as Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs.

He married Vickie L. Habeeb on May 31, 1980 at the Trinity Episcopal Church.  The couple resided in Watertown before moving to Evans Mills in 1983.  Vickie was a physical therapist assistant at the Samaritan Medical Center from 1969 to 1981. She passed April 1, 2017. Gary loved hunting, bow hunting and fishing.  He was a hunting and bow hunter instructor and very involved with every aspect of hunting from teaching, guiding and wildlife management.  He holds many records for hunting and fishing that still stand today.  He and his wife traveled all over the world.  He was a member of Safari International and Sables Organization.

He was predeceased by his wife Vickie, his parents, a sister Gloria Kehne, and a brother Lawrie Kehne. Among his survivors are his daughter and wife, Colleen and Amanda Bellnier, Evans Mills with their two sons Oliver and Jackson; a son Christopher Kehne and his wife Kim Lever-Kehne with their children Gabriel and Acacia, Melbourne, Australia; three sisters and their husbands, Jerrie and Troy Four, Arkansas; Marlene and Richard Johnson, Montana and Joyce and Les Kennedy, Iowa; his in-laws Dale and Gloria Gardner, Canton, NY and Port Orange, FL; Nicholas and Susan Habeeb, Phoenix, AZ; Peter Habeeb and Michelle Rupp, Lansdale, PA along with many nephews and nieces.
