Gayle R. Young, 78 of NYS Rte. 180 passed away Thursday April 30th at her home under the care of Hospice and her family. Gayle was born March 13, 1937 in Rochester, N.Y. the daughter of Robert and Olive Rogers Hamblin. She attended schools in Rochester and in 1954 she married Richard Young. Mr. Young passed away in 1999 after 43 years of marriage. Gayle worked as a hairdresser in Rochester until she shortly after her marriage. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 61 of Watertown. She enjoyed dancing, bowling and her cottage on Mud Bay and socializing with friends and family. She was also a volunteer at Samaritan Medical ER. She is survived by two daughters and their spouses: Kathy and Richard Merry of Chaumont and Karen and John Humphrey of LaFargeville. Her grandchildren: Casey, Shanna, Daniel, Caitlin and Kristen and great grandchild Chase and her life partner Daniel Greenfield also survives. Funeral services will be Thursday May 7th at the Christian Life Church in Chaumont with Pastor Jim Hayes officiating at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Ridge Chapel Cemetery in Rochester. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
