Obituary

Georgina Baker Schneckenburger 85, peacefully passed away at her home under the care of and surrounded by her family on 1-9-17. Georgina was the daughter of Royal and Elta Baker of Dexter, NY. She graduated from the Dexter High School, Plattsburgh State University, receiving her permanent teaching certification from St Lawrence University. Georgina met her husband Donald while attending Plattsburgh and enjoyed 42 years together. Their first home was in Massachusetts, relocating to Jefferson County residing in: Lafargeville, Watertown, Black River, Chaumont and Wellesley Island before returning to her ancestral home in Dexter, NY. She taught home economics, health and other classes at Lafargeville Central School for 38 years. She had the distinction of teaching three generations of students in that district. She was a very active member of the NYSUT Professional Association, holding many union positions into retirement. She leaves behind her daughter Doreen Schneckenburger and son Todd (Cherie) Schneckenburger, granddaughters, Alexa Schneckenburger, Amber (Jason) Lacey, and Megan Schneckenburger, and 3 great grandchildren Lilly, Caleb, and Alexander Lacey. Georgina loved to entertain, hosting gatherings that would cause even Martha Stewart to be envious. Her decorations, centerpieces and culinary creations were a hit with friends and relatives. Cruising on the river was a summer tradition for many years. She traveled extensively with Donald and other family members visiting Europe, the Caribbean, the Orient and South America. As requested their will be a service in her honor at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Brownville at 11:30 am Saturday January 14, 2017. A second gathering will be held for those who wish to attend a more secular recognition/celebration of her life at the Dexter Legion at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to attend either or both. Donations in her memory can be made to the SPCA of Jefferson County, 25056 Water Street, Watertown NY 13601, or the Hospice of Jefferson County 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown NY 13601.
