Gladys H. Rice, age 79 of Old Town Springs Rd., Chaumont passed away Wednesday morning at her home. She had been under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County, her husband and friends. Gladys was born July 7, 1931 in New York City; the daughter of George and Margaret Baranyray Hedges. She was educated in Flushing, Long Island and then attended college in St. Mary's in Arizona. She worked as an RN Charge Nurse in California, Florida, Arizona and Toms River, New Jersey. She retired in 1984. Gladys married Dr. Nicholas J. Rice March of 1977 in Margate, Florida. She was a member of Chaumont Fire Dept. Aux., Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Italian American Club Aux. of Watertown. She is survived by her husban Nicholas, a daughter Lois Wolden of Columbia, S.C. and a grandson and two great grandchildren. She also has a brother George Hedges of Palm Springs, California and nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours or funeral. She will be cremated. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
