Gloria E. Backus, age 72 of Moffat Rd., Dexter died at her home Wednesday afternoon under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. Gloria was born October 8, 1938 the daughter of Benjamin and Evalena Fenlong Malbouf. She graduated from Gouverneur High School and worked as an LPN at Samaritan Medical Center, Farmer's Nursing Home, Dexter and as a private duty nurse. She married Rodney K. Backus on August 26, 1961 at the Dexter Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church, Red Hat Society and was active with the YWCA swimming classes. Surviving is her husband Rodney and a son Lonnie C. Backus of Dexter; brothers and sisters : Walter Malbouf of Ontario, N.Y., Donald Malbouf of Chaumont, Ilene Kinney of Danridge, TN, Pamela Bisig of Redwood and several 1/2 brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by a daughter Corrine Backus in July of 1982 and a sister Patricia Goutremont. A funeral service will be held Saturday December 11th at 2:00 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with Rev. Adele Spencer officiating. Burial will be private at Dexter Cemetery.
