March 2, 1947 – February 27, 2016
Gordon C. Vroman, 68, of 113 West Main St., Watertown, passed February 27, 2016 at his home. Shortly thereafter his wife was stricken and she passed March 1, 2016 at the Samaritan Medical Center.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at the Hill Top Towers Community Room on May 28, 2016 from 1 to 3 p.m. Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.
Gordon was born on March 2, 1947 in Alexandria Bay, NY, son of the late William and Lena (Preston) Vroman. Karen was born on August 23, 1949 in the Village of West Carthage, daughter of the late Arthur and Fannie (Wheeler) Nevills.
The couple married on September 23, 1967 in Watertown. They resided most of their lives in Black River. Gordon worked at Tricil Landfill in Felts Mills as a machine operator for several years and Karen was a homemaker. They moved to Watertown in 2011 and resided at Hill Top Towers.
He was a former member and past Chief of the Felts Mills Fire Department, an instructor at the Civil Air Patrol on Fort Drum, and troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitch and reading.
They are survived by a son, William W. Vroman, Wyoming; three daughters and two sons in law, Dawn M. and Joel F. Kammerdeiner, Tonawanda, NY, Amy J. and Garry T. Putnam, Copenhagen, Amanda A. Brown, NC; six grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Gordon is predeceased by four sisters, Joanne Eckert, Hazel Walker, Shirley Kirkland, Stella Dunn and three brothers, Kenneth, Wesley and Michael Vrooman.
Karen is also survived by three brothers and a sister in law, Harold Nevills, Indiana, Frank and Shirley Nevills, Carthage, David Nevills, Gouverneur; three sisters and two brothers in law, Helen Pierce, Carthage, Nancy and Jim Parker, Black River and Judy and David Hutt, Watertown.
Donations may be sent c/o Dawn Kammerdeiner 17 Hillcrest Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150 to be used towards the purchase of a monument for their parents.
