Obituary

Irving "Jack"Phillips, age 94 of Three Mile Bay, N.Y. passed away at his home Friday morning under the care of his family. Jack was born January 2, 1920 on Pt. Penninsula the son of Robert and Fannie Graves Phillips. He graduated from Three Mile Bay High School and entered the Army Air Corps October 1942 and was discharged as a corporal on January 22, 1946. Jack married Elnora J. Benney on June 19, 1943 in Brownville. Mrs. Phillips passed away in 2007. Jack was a mechanic and worked for the New York State Dept. of Transportation. He was a member of the Chaumont Masonic Lodge #172, Odd Fellows Lodge, Post #832 American Legion in Cape Vincent, Lyme Central School Board,. He was also an active member of the Three Mile Bay Fire Dept. where he was instrumental in starting the Ambulance Squad. Jack was the "Oldest Elected Official of a Fire Department in the United States" Jack is survived by four daughter: Cindy Schreiber of Three Mile Bay, Pamela Heasley of Three Mile Bay, Darla and Robert Taylor of Chaumont, Jackie and Paul Crandall of Farmington, N.Y. He has nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson Mark Heasley, sisters: Ila Crandall, Florence Weiler and Fannie Phillips. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 19th at the Three Mile Bay Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas King officiating. Burial will be with Fire Dept. and Military honors at Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
