Obituary

Ida B. Banford, age 101 formerly of Dexter, died Wednesday morning at Mercy Health Care, Watertown. She has resided there for one year. Ida was born March 30, 1909 on Pillar Point, the daughter of Frederick E. and Mariette Riggs Baker. She graduated from Dexter High School and in later years took college courses. She married Robert L. Banford on July 8, 1943 in Maryland. The couple had lived in Pearl River, N.Y. where they owned and operated a Photography business and in 1963 moved to Syracuse, N.Y. where she worked as a housemother at Syracuse University. In 1966 they moved to Dexter. Mr. Banford died August 28, 1962. Ida was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars of Westmoreland, N.Y., St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Brownville, formerly of the Power Squadron, and was an active member for many years with the local arts association. Ida is survived by a niece Georgina Schneckenburger of Dexter, two grandchildren, a great grandchild and a niece and nephew and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Richardson W. Banford, and a brother Royal Baker. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Dexter Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Arts Assoc. of Northern New York 119 W. Main St. Sackets Harbor, N.Y. 13685 or Jefferson County SPCA. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.
