Obituary

Irene L. Lunderman, 92, of the Town of Rutland, New York, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

She was born on January 6, 1934, in Islip, Long Island, New York, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Hausman) Pinder. Irene graduated from Black River High School in 1951.

Following graduation, she was employed in the Statistical Department at Agricultural Insurance Company in Watertown from 1951 until 1955. On April 17, 1955, she married the love of her life, Burton A. Lunderman, at the Church of Christ in Felts Mills. Together they made their home in Felts Mills, where Irene devoted herself to raising her family as a homemaker.

Over the years, Irene also worked at Kinney Drug Store, Weston’s, and Jo-Ann Fabrics. She was well known throughout the community for baking and decorating beautiful cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions from her home.

Her husband, Burton, was employed by St. Regis Paper Company in DeFeriet for 40 years.

Irene was a former member of the Felts Mills American Legion Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star, Black River Chapter No. 34, for over 50 years, and Concordia Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving her community and cherished the friendships she made through these organizations.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Leni Santos of Massachusetts and Charles A. Lunderman of Marcy, New York; her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Scott Bogart of Milford, Maine; two grandchildren, John Roe and Cheri; four great-grandchildren, Kora, Daisy, Logan, and Liam; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Burton A. Lunderman; her son, Michael A. Lunderman; and her two brothers, Charles and Alvin Pinder.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at Bruce Funeral Home, 131 Maple Street, Black River, followed by a funeral service 11 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Felts Mills Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Irene’s memory may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or to the Order of the Eastern Star.
