Obituary

James E. Marquette, 68 of Dexter, passed away at his home Friday morning while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. James was born June 3, 1947 in Watertown the son of Cecil and Martha Cook Marquette. He attended school in Watertown and served in the Army from 1964 until 1967 with the 1st Bn 66th Armor 2nd Division in Viet Nam and then served until 1970 in the US Army Reserve. James married Barbara Gilbo on September 23, 1967 in Watertown. James was a Truck driver and worked at Rutland Hills Dairy for 17 years, Alpine Fence from 1989 to 1998 and at Ft. Drum as Heavy Equipment Operator until retiring in 2012. He was a member of Black River American Legion Post 673. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with and spoiling grandchildren, watching scary movies and was a huge Seinfeld fan, and bag-piper fan. He also enjoyed coffee in the evening at B & J Bait Shop. A special thanks to Clayton C. Riggs Jr. for coming to his home to play the bag-pipes one more time. He is survived by his wife Barbara, and children: James Davies Jr. and Donna Lawler of Watertown, Kelly and Shawn Walker of Dexter, Stephanie Davies and Bill Rafferty of LaFargeville. Three sisters: Celia and Michael Oden of Ohio, Susan and Robert Verne of Massachusetts, Patricia Pierce of Florida, several nieces and nephews survive. Also grandchildren JC Marquette, Corey Walker, Sierra Walker, Remington Marquette, Tristen Walker, Collin Miskimon, Marissa Mosely, Payton Elicky and great granddaughter Macena Marquette survive. He was predeceased by a brother Michael Marquette and granddaughter Shawna Michelle Walker in 1997. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning 11:00 am at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Paul and Cheryl Gmitter officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be Monday evening from 7-9 PM. Donations may be made to Wounded Warrior.
