Obituary

James M. Houghmaster, 67, of 556 Coffeen St., Watertown, NY, passed away Sunday March 1, 2015 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 4th and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 5th at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St. Watertown.

The prayer service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 6th at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church.

Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery in the spring.

Born on October 22, 1947 in Watertown, NY, son of the late James A. Houghmaster and Virginia Powell.  James graduated from South Jeff High School Adams, NY.

James served in the US Navy from November 1964 to November 1970 and was honorably discharged with the rank QM2nd Class.  James is also a Vietnam Veteran.

Following his discharge from the Navy he worked with his father as a self employed contractor. He then went to work for Stature Electric in Watertown, NY as a machinist for several years, retiring in 1992.

His passions were computers, information technology and gardening.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He also was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

James was a life member of the North American Hunting Club, life time member of the NRA and also taught hunting safety courses for many years.

James married his second wife Roxanne R. Bowman on November 18, 1979 and resided in Watertown, NY.

Besides his beloved wife, James is also survived by two sons and a daughter in law, James M. and wife Kevan Houghmaster II, Christopher J. Houghmaster; three daughters and their husbands, Tamara and Cory Ryan, Christina and Hubert Finley, Diana and Brad Sharpe; 20 grandchildren, 6  great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is survived by a brother Robert and wife Linda Houghmaster; four sisters and a brother in law, Barbra VanEpps, Katrina Houghmaster, Cherie Beebee, Debbie and Lehman Reed.

He is predeceased by a brother Ricky L. Houghmaster.
