Joan M. VanAlstyne of 13199 Morris Tract Road Chaumont, N.Y. passed away Sunday afternoon at her home. Joan was born April 10, 1935 in the Town of Orleans. Mrs. VanAlstyne worked at Chaumont Free Library for 18 years and at Brownville Library doing what she loved. She retired from North Country Library System in 2002. Noted to be a Girl Scout Leader from 1966-1975, a 50 year member of Grange. Graduated from Lyme Central School and married H. George VanAlstyne for 60 years. Predeceased by her father Fred Switzer and mother Florence Steel Switzer, a brother Earl Switzer. Survived by her husband and the following children: Ella Adams of Watertown, Christine and David Monnat of Scottsville, NY, Harold L. and Sherri VanAlstyne of Dexter, NY, Della and Milford Hass of Chaumont, a sister Sue Favry of Harrisville, NY and brothers: Dennis and Chris Richardson pf Texas and 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
