Obituary

John T. Raso, 59,  of  LaFargeville Road, Theresa, passed October 15, 2016 at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 20 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.

The Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 21 at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will follow at N. Watertown Cemetery.

Born on September 11, 1957 in Washington, DC, the son of Charles and Patricia GoGoe Raso, he graduated from Lyme Central High School in 1976 and later received his Associate's Degree thru the University of Maryland.

He entered the US Army on August 24, 1976 in Syracuse, NY and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1988 as SSG.  He received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.

While stationed in El Paso, TX he married Diana Richards on March 17, 1984.  The couple  moved to Theresa in 1989.  He was a line man for Public Works on Fort Drum and then an Engineering Tech for the Fort Drum Public Works Master Planning Division for several years.  He retired in 2011 due to health issues.

He was very active in his community, was the former Deputy Mayor in Theresa from April of 2014 until January 2016 and a Trustees for the Village of Theresa Board of Trustees from 2010 until January 2016.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing,the outdoors, bird calling, drawing and skydiving.

Among his survivors are his wife, Diana M. Raso, Theresa; three daughters and two sons in law, Vanessa F. and Paul S. Morgan, WA, Jacquelyn  R. Raso and her companion Dave Winter, PA, Victoria and Tim Gamble, Buffalo; two grandchildren, Jade and Kaleb and two grandchildren on the way; two brothers, Charlie Raso, VA,  Bobby Raso, Three Mile Bay; two sisters and their husbands, Sylvia and Kevin Hubbard, Depauville, Cheryl and Rick Dorr, Cape Vincent;several nieces and nephews.
