Joseph G. Firlik III, 78, of 25093 Sanford Road, Calcium, passed May 25, 2017 at his home.
Joe was born on March 26, 1939, in Albany, NY, son of Joseph G. and Janet Sullivan Firlik, Jr. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1957.
Following school he married Sylvia Prevost on October 3, 1959. Joe and his wife moved to Plattsburg where he worked as a Volkswagon mechanic and also for his father who owned and operated Firlik Film Express, delivering movies to cinemas all over NNY and transferring to Watertown, NY. Most of his life he drove tractor trailer. He worked for Anchor Motor Freight Co. on Wellesley Island, NY, also worked for WalMart in Marcy,NY for several years. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2003.
Joe enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, boating and rebuilding Volkswagen cars. Joe was also a member of the Elks Club in Watertown.
He is survived by two daughters: Diana S. and her husband Patrick G. Mullen, Watertown, Kathy L. Woolf and her companion, Todd Schofield, Adams Center, a son: Joseph G. Firlik IV and his fiance Kelly M. Hayes, Mexico, NY; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Husband Sani) Yamout Jason (companion Tara Spencer) Firlik, Ashley (Husband Zachary) VanGaasbeek, Jordan (companion Jeremy Irey) Firlik, Taylor Woolf; six great grandchildren; three brothers:, James Firlik, Port Henry, NY, Jerry and his wife Denise Firlik, Horseheads, NY, Jeff and his wife Lou Anne Firlik, Williston, VT, seven sisters, Joyce Frenia, S. Hampton, NJ, Jackie Baker, Port Henry, NY, Judy Pepper, Vancouver, WA, Janet Berry, Syracuse, NY, Jennifer and her husband Richard Diamond, Hudson Falls, NY, Joanne Kordziel, Wilmington, NY, Jill and her husband Jeff Stonecash, Fernandina Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Also among his survivors are his beloved fiance of 15 years, Mary Lou Tesmer with whom he enjoyed traveling with and spending winters in Hudson, FL; her two sons: Kevin Tesmer, AZ, Teddy Tesmer, CA and her two daughters: Joanne Valdez, CO and Christina Mills, Watertown, NY.
Besides his parents, a brother John Firlik and a sister Juliet Hurley died before him.
Calling hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. A prayer service will be held 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a 1 p.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will then follow at the Sanford Corners Cemetery.
