Obituary

June O. Shannon, 84 of White Road, Watertown passed away Sunday morning at Samaritan Medical Center. June was born July 2, 1931 in River Grove, IL the daughter of Roy and Lavera Rohner Anderson. She lived in Wooddale, IL from 1935 until her marriage to Henry J. Can on May 5, 1951 and lived in Elgin until 1954 when they moved to Chaumont where they operated a dairy farm until 1969. June worked for Scott & Fetzer and then Upjohn in 1982 as a Certified Nurse's Aide and then at H.H.A. for Upjohn and Caregivers until retiring in 1993. Henry Can died June 22, 1991 and she later married Dr. Harold K. Shannon who died April 24, 1998. She was a communicate of Immaculate Conception Church of Brownville and volunteered for the bereavement lunches at the church, past member of Perch River Grange, and Election Inspector in Brownville for many years, volunteered for the blind, Court Appointed Special Assistant for neglected and abused children, and volunteered at Hospice of Jefferson County and Volunteer of the Year in 2002. She is survived by three children: Kathy and Daniel Gautier of Mass., Helen and Mark Fenlon of Marcellus, Stephen and Pamela Can of PA., four stepchildren: Linda and James Gracey of Dexter, Paul Shannon of Liverpool, Nancy and Jim Abbott of Watertown, Jeff and Donna Shannon of Watertown. There also are four sisters: LaVera Smetters, Lou Ann Kopka, Patricia Taylor and Penelope Martinek all of Illinois. Two brothers are Roy Anderson and Chance Anderson both in Arizona. She has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Ruth Smetters. There will be a Memorial Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at a time and date to be announced. There are no calling hours.
