Obituary

Chaumont- Kenneth A Sanford Jr., 71, Old Town Springs Rd, died at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County on August 4, 2013. Born September 20, 1941 in the village of Stone Mills, son of Kenneth A and Marie Phillips Sanford, he attended LaFargeville School. He married Martha J. Wiley on June 11, 1960, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Rosiere. He worked in the construction field for several years and retired from the Jefferson County Buildings and Grounds Department. He enjoyed hunting, outdoors, horseback riding, farm animals, especially his goats, and his beloved farm. He was a rodeo cowboy in his earlier years. He was most known to the public for his years as an auctioneer, but to his grandchildren he will forever be Papa Goat. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Martha, two sons and their wives, Kenneth "Sam" and Kelly, Chaumont, Matthew and Katy, Dexter; a daughter Kelly Hayes and her companion Joe Firlik, Mexico , daughter and her husband Kendra and Bruce Johnson, Arizona; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Sally Alexandria Bay, Thomas and Christine, Watertown; four sisters, Elizabeth Ingerson, Clayton, Shirley and Charlie Melara, Watertown, Gwendolyn and Dennis Kirkby, Susanne and Noel Longton, both of LaFargeville, a sister in law Beverly Sanford, Dexter; ten grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Jessica, Christian, Caden, Austin, Jade, Annah, Kendyl Rose and Kelsey; a great- granddaughter, Haylee and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard Sanford. Calling hours will be Wednesday August 7th from 2:00- 4:00-and 7:00-9:00 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on August 8th at Airport Christian Fellowship Church, Dexter with Pastor Paul Gmitter officiating. Burial will be immediately following at the St. Vincent de Paul cemetery in Rosiere. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
