Kenneth J. Bancroft Jr., 86, of 36251 County Rt. 36, Carthage, passed December 14, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 19 at the Black River Cemetery.

Born on January 4, 1931 in Chaumont, NY, son of Kenneth J. and Thelma M. Morris Bancroft Sr., he attended Lyme Central School.

Following school he entered the Army on August 4, 1948 and was honorably discharged March 25, 1954.  He married Elizabeth Metcalf on March 28, 1955 at the home of his mother.  The couple settled in Carthage in 1966.

Mr. Bancroft worked for St. Regis Paper Co., later known as Champion International Paper Co., retiring in 1993.

He and his wife owned and operated a business at their home selling homemade bird house, birdfeeders, and wooden lawn ornaments.  Mrs. Bancroft passed in 2011.

Among his survivors are three daughters, Carol Cameron, SC, Thelma Bancroft, Carthage, Dorothy Pate, Massena, three sons and two daughters in law, Kenneth and Cindy Bancroft III, Carthage, William Bancroft, Lowville, Raymond and Kathleen Bancroft, Copenhagen; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother and sister in law, Martin and Jeanette Jones, Chaumont, a sister, Elighta Peebles, Rodman and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife a brother Wallace Bancroft died before him.
