Obituary

Lloyd J. Higgins Jr., 85, passed away Sunday March 13, 2016 at his home on Three Mile Point, Chaumont NY, with his wife Mim by his side. Lloyd was born August 7, 1930 in Clayton NY, son of Lloyd J. Sr. and Frances (Greene) Higgins. He lived on Carleton Island before moving to the mainland to attend school. Lloyd graduated from Cape Vincent Central School in 1948. He joined New York Artificial Breeders Association (NYABC) in 1952 and trained at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He retired at age 62 after 40 years with Eastern A. I. Cooperative(NYABC). Lloyd was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and was an original member and founder of The .270 Hunting Club. He also loved fishing, and became a licensed fishing guide, operating Viking Charters on Lake Ontario. He became a golfer after his retirement and was a member of the C-Way Golf Club, and a member of the Senior Men's Golf League, also known as The Geritol League. His marriage to Faith Anne Standish ended in divorce. He later married Mildred Countryman in December, 1969 and they recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Lloyd is survived by his wife Mim, children Deborah(Michael) Rogers and David (Shelley) Higgins of Clayton, and Stephen(Debbie) Higgins of Dexter, and a sister Nancy Klavins of Shelton CT, step-daughter Wendy(Shawn)Hutcheon and step-sons Kevin(Sylvia) Hubbard of Depauville and Gregory(Rose)Hubbard of Three Mile Point. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Frances Marie Haas, brother Carl Higgins, brothers-in-law John Haas and Al Klavins and his step-son, Jamie Hubbard. The family wishes to thank the nurses and home health care aids from the Jefferson County Public Health Department for the compassionate care they provided Lloyd and his family. There will be no calling hours. Spring burial with graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Vincent at the family's convenience. .
